Healthy gums are firm, pink, and do not bleed easily during brushing. If this description doesn’t fit with your mouth, you may have gingivitis. Take note of the below signs because gingivitis is oftentimes overlooked until too late.
Caught early, gingivitis is reversible. So, it is highly important that you watch for it before a more damaging type of gum disease emerges. Periodontitis is the next level of gum disease, and that can lead to tooth loss.
Lack of good oral hygiene is why people get gingivitis. Don’t forget to brush daily, floss, and go to the dentist for your 6-month check-ups.
Since pain is non-existent until you have a serious problem, you’ll need to become acquainted with other common symptoms of gingivitis, which are; swollen gums; inflamed gums; tender gums; gums that are more red than pink; bad breath; and gums that bleed easily.
Your dentist is on the frontline fighting gingivitis. Visit him regularly for check-ups and professional teeth cleaning at least twice a year. Follow this up with loyal oral care at home and you can indeed get rid of gingivitis.
At home, continue the battle by brushing twice a day (at a minimum) with an antimicrobial toothpaste, and floss at least once per day. Bacteria grow unopposed in the mouth at night time, so you should make an effort to clean your mouth thoroughly before to going to bed.
